An exciting opportunity has arisen to be a volunteer in an innovative and holistic approach to achieving a healthier lifestyle. Health First Team recently received Awards for All Lottery funding for its Healthier Active Communities Project which it will be delivering with Great Homer Street Medical Practice in Everton we anticipate that the project will commence early September 2016.
The project aims to encourage and support participants to embrace a healthier lifestyle that will help them to understand the importance of good nutrition and exercise as well as the emotional relationship that we often experience with food and how this is linked to how we value and perceive ourselves.
Volunteer Role
To assist our Personal Trainers(PT) to deliver our health and wellbeing programs.
To assist with wellness evaluations for all our participants. This will include taking measurements to obtain the BMI for each of our participants. It will also involve using our Tanita body scan machine which provides detailed measurements which include Body fat %, Body water%. Visceral fat rating, metabolic age, etc
To help to monitor the progress of participants towards achieving their health goals. This may involve a follow up call or an email each week.
To assist the Personal Trainer to deliver a range of physical activities which include walking, cycling, trips to green spaces, cardiovascular and aerobic exercise.
To assist the Personal Trainer to ensure the participants complete a 5 day food dairy so that the can received tailored advice about how the can improve their nutrition and achieve a balanced diet.
Commitment
Volunteers will be expected to be available for approximately 2 hours each week with the occasional trip to green spaces if available and this would cover the whole day. All volunteers will be paid travel expenses.
Location
Our Healthier Active Communities Project will be delivered in the Everton area of Liverpool in suitable venues which will be accessible to the participants.

Supervision
The volunteers will be supervised by Tony Excell, the Project Manager. All volunteers will receive regular supervision and will be given the opportunity to contribute to the improvement and to the development of our work. All our volunteers will be given the opportunity to actually participant in our health and wellbeing programs because we believe greater learning and understanding our activities can be gained this way.
