Physical Activity Development Officer, Healthiness Ltd

Service Area:     Physical Activity Delivery and Program Development

Location:              Delivery throughout Liverpool

Office Base: Toxteth Liverpool, L8 8DX

Salary: £18,574–£20,296 inc National Insurance, Tax and Pension

Hours: 37.5- 40 hours per week

Annual Leave: 28 days per annum and Bank Holidays

Context:

Healthiness Ltd is at a turning point in its development- as it looks to re-design its services in line with the current Healthy Liverpool -Physical Activity Engagement strategy, and Exercise Referral Programs. This will involve recruiting, training and deploying additional staff and volunteers to support and updated approach that will ensure that vulnerable groups are improving their overall health and well-being, and reducing community health inequalities.

The Healthiness project works with Older Adults and Adults experiencing Mental ill-health, and substance and alcohol addiction in order to empower them to obtain healthier lifestyles through the provision of physical activity and health education sessions at an inclusive community level.

Core Purpose of Role:

To assist the Directors in the provision and delivery of quality physical activity and health education programmes for vulnerable adult groups within Liverpool.

To assist the Directors in the daily delivery and organization of program development duties, time management of classes, appointments and events.

To promote healthy lifestyle opportunities for isolated and vulnerable groups, signposting to available support and services.

To work with organisations to actively promote healthiness classes and promote engagement from potential beneficiaries.

To engage with key organisations including the NHS, Mersey Care and Liverpool City Council to promote activity in line with the Liverpool Active City Strategy.

To develop an exercise referral pathway that can work in partnership with local health care and government services.

Main Responsibilities

 

What will the person specifications for the project –

They will manage the day to day development of the programme for delivering physical activity, and health education to the beneficiary groups within their designated areas.

Deliver physical activity sessions to beneficiary groups, including chair based exercise, circuits, boxercise, Boccia, sports activitites.

Develop and coordinate a range of physical activity opportunities for adults across Liverpool by building on existing  opportunities and developing new programmes, and networks

They will develop and engage beneficiaries in a specialist exercise programme, devised with multiple needs in mind.

They will devise education programmes relating to health and wellbeing to special populations, including topics specific to older adults, adults with mental health conditions and adults with history of substance abuse.

They will administer contact with prime program organisations and stakeholders including day centres, churches, community centres and care home settings to asses programme delivery and find ways to make regular contact with vulnerable adults within their neighboured areas.

They will be responsible for retention of programme participants.

They will collect all evaluations from their delivery centres and report back to evaluation officer, and managing director ensuring feedback from users is received analysed and considered to an agreed timescale.

Engage with a variety of community groups through talks, presentations displays and community events, to raise awareness of benefits of physical activity and well-being.

Keep abreast of all relevant legislation and health and social services provision that affect the provision of care of vulnerable adults and share this knowledge with colleagues and service user.

They will ensure Health & Safety is maintained at all delivery venues including enviromental and personal risk assessments

Key Accountabilities:

 

Monitor the range of sessions that service users are being empowered to access; take affirmative action enabling individuals to maximise opportunities to assess what opportunities they would like to see in their communities.

Maintain accurate, effective day to day administration and developmental duties.

Ensure that Healthiness sessions and activities are promoted and marketed to all sections of the community, delivering effective presentations to encourage take-up of available services with a diverse range of vulnerable adults.

Other Accountabilities:

Facilitate and enable vulnerable adults within the Liverpool area to access sessions and gain from our own and other organisations’ services.

Support the ethos of Healthiness by maximising engagement with activities and tasks that promote the adoption of healthy lifestyles for vulnerable groups.

Develop innovative and individually-focused solutions to respond to the changing physical activity/educational needs of service users.

The ability to work both autonomously and as part of a team.

Contribute to fundraising initiatives including new ideas that use entrepreneurial solutions to meet the challenges faced by Healthiness and our service users; supporting the organisation to move from grant provided services to offering charged-for services using the principles and values of a sustainable social business model.

Contribute to relevant social media to promote the work Healthiness Ltd.

Be responsible for recognising vulnerable people and following agreed procedures to report and record, following all Safeguarding Policies as required.

Undertake other duties as required to support the smooth functioning of Healthiness Ltd in keeping with the overall grading and general responsibilities of the post.
